Papers, 1937-1959 (bulk 1943-1945).

This collection relates primarily to Bud Stewart's service in the Pacific during and after World War II. Included are unsigned proofs, some with edit marks, of the Japanese surrender document; anti-Japanese propaganda leaflets, urging Japanese soldiers to surrender; and maps of Japan and the Philipines. Also present are guides to Japan, the Philippines, Australia, and New Guinea, which were apparently distributed to occupying troops to provide background information on the history and culture of these countries. Copies of newspapers distributed to American troops are also included.

Biographical note: Manlius Rupert "Bud" Stewart served twenty-two years in the Army Corps of Engineers. He was involved in the construction of the Al-Can Highway.
